Can't hear

I am using Phoner 2.21 on a WIN XP service pack 3, 1.8 GHz with .875 GB memory.  The sound card is Realtek Semiconductor Corp. ALC880 driver version 5.10.0.5177 (10/17/2005).  My telephone provider is Viatalk on a broadband cable networks.  I used the following settings…
Display Name: Your Name Here
Username: 14143271253
Authorization User: 14143271253
Password: *********
Domain/Realm: chicago-18.vtnoc.net
SIP Proxy: chicago-18.vtnoc.net
Outbound Proxy: chicago-18.vtnoc.net

I can dial out and receive call.  I hear the phone ring but can’t hear the caller either on incoming or outgoing calls..  However the caller can hear me.  I tried different CAPI blocksizes and change the API setting from CAPI to SIP.  Any suggestions?

SIP is the right mode for you.
Did you try to configure a STUN server? I can't tell you, if you have problems with your infrastructure (firewall, NAT). So did you try another VoIP softphone like X-Lite? Does that work?
You can try PhonerLite, that has some more statistics - so you can see if any speech data is received.

Hello rueil,

This says that there is no incoming connection. In most cases this is because your chosen port is already in use or blocked. Try another Port in Options - Communication - SIP: Local Port. That should help. Otherwise please check your firewall and router for blocking settings.

Many Greetings, Jens

Hi,

"I notice a problem in the task bar where it shows in:---;out:gsm"

I am also having this problem with the downloaded version 1.71 where in:---;out:A-law
Again the called person can hear me but I cannot hear them.

The SIP port is 5060 and this is set up for VOIP on the router. No firewall is blocking this port. Other ports, e.g. 5061 or 5062 do not work either.

Do you have a solution?
Thanks

Do you have configured a STUN server? If so, please try without STUN.
If you have router that uses symmetric NAT, STUN can't work.

Thanks for getting back to me.

NAT traversal setting is set to 'none' and there is no STUN server set...
I'm running a Draytek Vigor router and have an analogue phone also connected which works fine. In fact when the no. is called both phones ring. However, I have tested by removing this analogue phone.

I've also checked with a quick turn off of the windows firewall with no effect.

I have the exactly situation here with another router. Both devices (phone on router and PC with PhonerLite) are ringing. There are no problems with speech.
Did you try another softphone like X-Lite, NinjaLite or Zoiper? Do they work better?

Just tested again this morning. Same problem.

No I have not tried another softphone. I looked at the products on the internet and thought Phonerlite offered the best solution Smiley

Ok, just tested Zoiper - which crashed as a programme and X-lite which is very heavy on computer usuage. All I get from X-lite is noise at the receiving end - no voice. Cannot hear anything either.
So Phonerlite is better in that respect as at least people can hear me.
But I need to hear them!
Do you have the solution?
Thanks

I can't do anything at the moment, because I can't reproduce the error here. Do you know the tool Wireshark? With this tool you can capture all network traffic that is exchanged between you PC and the router. So if you could capture such call with PhonerLite it may help me. You can send this capture file to me by email.

For anyone reading this the problem was solved...

Basically the phone co. had a proxy address to get around a NAT firewall on the router. If this would not have worked a STUN server would have needed configuring.

Thanks for all your help (here and by email) Phoner Admin.
Now a great little programme working perfectly Smiley
