Codec flashes between A-Law and u-Law & call fails

Hello

We have an issue when doing an attended transfer from other devices to PhonerLite which causes the transfer to fail.

Blind transfers work fine. Attended transfers fail the majority of the time from hardware phones and another softphone, Bria.

PhonerLite shows one call in the display, yet the Codec column flickers between A-Law and u-Law. The 3rd party who was transferred can hear the PhonerLite user, but the PhonerLite user cannot hear the 3rd party user, instead they hear quiet robotic audio.

Please can you help?

Marcus

The remote party seems to change the codec periodically. I can't tell you why. I don't know what provider/PBX you are using.
You can disable u-Law codec in PhonerLite. Then it is clear for the remote party that A-Law should be used only.

Thank you for the reply. We've tried disabling u-Law and the same thing happens unfortunately (without the codec appearing to change rapidly).

When we do the attended transfer from a Bria softphone, after speaking to the person you're about to transfer to and press the Transfer button, one of the lines still remains open to the person you're transferring to. A similar thing happened when transferring from a hardware phone.

Is there any logs we can send over which would help figure out why this is happening?

You saved the configuration after disabling u-Law? The remote party is not allowed then to send u-Law to PhonerLite. Perhaps you should ask your PBX vendor/administrator why this codec is used when it is not negotiated with PhonerLite.

We have completed further testing and narrowed this down to an issue with PhonerLite.

We are unable to do attended transfers to PhonerLite.

We installed a different softphone on the user's computer, Counterpath X-Lite and Counterpath Bria, and it worked fine.

Can you advise how we can get debug logs to you to check? The Debug option doesn't seem to change the UI so not sure how to view the log.

If you disable u-Law in PhonerLite the peer isn't allowed to send u-Law. So I don't see the problem at PhonerLite side.

It isn't an issue with u-Law - that had already been disabled and the same issue still happens.

Are there any logs I can send you to help with the issue?

PhonerLite shows the received codec at "in:" in actual call list. If this changes between A-Law and u-Law the remote party sends this.
In internal log of PhonerLite such codec changes are not listed, because that would be too much output.
You can do a Wireshark trace. That captures all network traffic on your PC. Then you will see all SIP messages and all RTP messages. If you can trace such a call, you can send me the trace via e-mail - not here in the forum. Then I can tell you more.
