1-2 second delay at the beginning of a call
18. Sep 2019 at 03:47
Print Post
Hello, everyone.
I have a short delay, 1 or 2 seconds, at the beginning of an outbound call. The calling party hears the called party right from the start of a conversation, but the called party does not hear the calling party for several seconds. Does this problem have anything to do with the PhonerLite software? How can I solve this problem?

That depends on the used provider. There is always a problem with NAT, because the PC (PhonerLite) only knows the internal private IP address, but not the public one of the router. The used port is changed by NAT too.
Some providers send their speech data (RTP) to the address/port where they get it from the client. In such cases there is no delay and no problem.
Other providers use the address and port provided by the client. In that cases there are some possibilities the client can do to set the right address and port. The most simple one is using a STUN server. So if your router doesn't use symmetric NAT you should configure a STUN server in PhonerLite. If that is not possible, using UPnP is a possibility, That must be activated in the router in order to work. This is normally deactivated because of security reasons.

I am using a router that supports SIP extensions. So clients in the (W)LAN doesn't need to contact the SIP provider directly. Instead they register at the router. The router acts as a PBX. If you have such router this is the most easiest way. No STUN and no UPnP is needed then.

I have found out that Phonerlite makes an extra ring after channels get connected. I have tested other software (Microsip), there is no such problem. How can i turn this ring off? The thing is the caller is confused with this ring and does not say anything,
the callee does not hear the caller for first couple of seconds.

Do you initiate an outgoing call or do you mean the generated ring tone for incoming calls?

This happens when I make outgoing calls. When I get an answer, the PhonerLite makes a ring itself, as if it notifies the user abount an incoming call. I have turned off the call waiting option. Now there is no ring. Is this the one, that makes this ring?

I mean with "call yourself" if you call your own number.  Wink
OK, if this happens when Skype is running, I assume your are using a headset that is used by PhonerLite and Skype simultaneously. That is a problem then.
Can you please verify that you don't have that ringing if you terminate (not only minimize) Skype?

Yes, I have tested this with my own phone. I was watching the trace.

If you call your own number with PhonerLite, then there is an outgoing call and you get an incoming call too - so it is clear that it rings.

Maybe you have activated the "HID-Ring" - then your headset is ringing for its own. Uncheck that option at the menu "Options/Ringing".

Tried to turn HD-Ring off, does not help. Should I turn off anything else?

I don't know what else could cause such ringing. I don't have such ringing here. Sorry.
