How to Fix Echo / Poor Audio Quality in Phoner Cal

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Phoner (phoner.de) on my Windows 10 PC for several months, and recently I’ve run into some serious audio issues during calls: echo, cracking, or voices dropping in and out. Before I looked for an alternative, I wanted to ask here if anyone else has faced the same problem and found a reliable fix.

Here are the details:

I use Phoner with my headset (USB) — both mic and speaker.

The echo happens randomly, not just at call start.

I’ve tested on different networks (Wi-Fi and Ethernet), but the issue persists.

My computer is updated, and I have the latest version of Phoner installed.

A few questions for the community:

Have you experienced echo or poor sound quality in Phoner calls? How did you solve it?

Do you think it’s more likely a hardware issue (headset, sound card) or a Phoner software bug?

Are there specific audio/video settings in Phoner (buffer size, codec, sampling rate) that help improve call clarity?

Would switching to a different interface (e.g., using Bluetooth or a different USB port) make a noticeable difference?

I’d really appreciate any step-by-step troubleshooting advice (or even configuration screenshots). Thanks in advance for your help — hopefully we can figure this out together!

Viele Grüße,

There is no further development of Phoner since years! Phoner is too much tight to ISDN (CAPI).
There is a new application called PhonerLite (https://lite.phoner.de). Do you have the same problems with that one?
