Receiving audio becomes choppy after 30 seconds

Hello,

I've downloaded phonerlite which is a fantastic softphone, but there's one problem - about 30 seconds into every call the incoming audio suddenly goes very choppy. The far end can hear fine, it's just the incoming audio. Do you have any suggestions where to look for solutions??

I've tried turning QoS off, and also tried various different codecs, with the same result.

Many thanks.

I think this is related to your soundcard. Some devices have a bad timing. They play the sound a bit faster that the data arrives from the network. In most cases you can chose a different sampling rate (Options/Sampling). Give it a try.

Brilliant, thank you. Where do I find this on PhonerLite? Under 'configuration > sound' I can only see gain control, noise reduction and DTMF feedback.

See my last post. In "Options" menu there is an entry called "Sampling". This is a setting that is not dependent of a special profile, therefore it is not under "Configuration" page.

Ah yes, thanks. Unfortunately this didn't fix it - I've tried all the different sampling rates, including restarting the application in between, with no luck.

I have noticed something else though - the buffer under receipt on statistics sits around the 70ms point (eg. 20+50) for the first 30 seconds or so, and then this suddenly drops to 0+10 at the point it gets choppy, and stays around 0+10 to 0+20. I'm guessing this is likely to be the problem, is it possible to fix the buffer size at a minimum of 50ms?

Then I assume there is a problem with received speech data. With other tools like Wireshark you can capture the network traffic. Wireshark allows analyzing the timings of the received packets. Without such a trace I can't tell more. Sorry.
Did you test another softphone?

Is it possible to fix a minimum buffer? Surely this would fix the issue?

If received data doesn't arrive at the right timing, a bigger buffer doesn't solve this. Normally a speech packet arrives every 20 milliseconds. If the data comes every 21 ms, you will have a problem. I even can't tell you if that is the problem at all. As I said before, a Wireshark trace would help to identify the problem.
You have pro problems with other softphones?

It works fine until it suddenly drops the buffer right down, so keeping the buffer up is most likely to sort it. Yes I have two other softphones installed and neither of them have this problem.

So I suggest to use one of the other softphones. As long as I can't reproduce the problem here for my own, I can't do anything. Sorry.

Had the same issues. I shut down the "Fritz Box Cable" completly, waited some minutes and restarted it.
