Thanks for clearing that up.  Somehow I incorrectly thought that the crackles were caused by jitter.  But I understand now that the crackles have something to do with short block processing unrelated to jitter.

So increasing the block size in Phoner increases the quality (except the delay) for you?

Yes, that is correct.  Lowering it to 240 produce similar crackles to PhonerLite.  At the default 480, there are crackles, but they are quite acceptable.  As a further test I tried it at 960 and the crackles were almost totally eliminated.  And yes, the delay was increased correspondingly.

Sorry for telling that, but I can't help you. It seems your sound device is not capable of handling such small block sizes.
With my PC I can use 160 bytes block sizes without any problem.
