We just installed FreePBX with Asterisk 11.  When I use PhonerLite (on Windows 7 x64 Pro) it keeps dropping the call intermittently.  I think it may be some sort of silence detection - if the recipient mutes me, it drops after 30 seconds EVERY TIME.  Otherwise, it will drop in the middle of a call for no reason at an arbitrary time.  This only happens with PhonerLite, and not with other softphones on my network.

Is there a PhonreLite setting somewhere I can adjust? Or do I need to make some setting in Asterisk?

PhonerLite drops a call if many errors occur for sending RTP. If the remote party answers with an ICMP (e.g. port unreachable), then the call is dropped.
Can you do a Wireshark trace for such call and send it to me by e-mail? Then I can tell you more.

Ah, in FreePBX (asterisk), I have some RTP settings:
Reinvite Behaviour (yes|no|nonat|update) = no
RTP Timers:  rtptimeout=30 [sic], rtpholdtimeout=300; rtpkeepalive=0

[update]
I se the rtpkeepalive to 10 and now the calls don't drop any more, even if the callee has me on mute.

Now I just have to eliminate the crackling.

Thanks for the update. Do you still have problems with audio quality? You may change the sample rate in PhonerLite.

Yes, the sampling was the next thing I was going to try.
I had it set to 48000.

I'm going to try 16000
and disable all codecs except ulaw, alaw and dtmf
and see if that helps.

I did both of those things and now the calls are crystal clear.  I am very happy now!   Smiley
